I took this photo last week when snapping shots of flowers for Garden Bloggers Bloomday. I didn't really see what I'd captured until editing photos on my laptop screen. Do you see it?
In case you don't: there's a misshapen Mahonia gracilipes leaf on the upper left hand corner of the screen. Its shadow is falling in the upper middle and perfectly echos the red teeth on the Agave ovatifolia leaf. Spike and spurs...pure plant photo magic.

Very cool. Love how the delicate blooms and their shadows show against the agave.
ReplyDeleteThose little flowers are so hard to photograph, but so lovely.
DeleteOh, that's cool. Sometimes the shadows really are the best part.
ReplyDeleteright?
DeleteMagic indeed.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a critter took a small bite off the Mahonia leaf, a nibble without which that shadow wouldn't have had the same effect.
I believe it was just a natural deformity in the way it grew, like part of the leaf didn't unfurl correctly.
DeleteHow fantastic!
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteShadows add mystery - and make great photographs!
ReplyDeleteI feel lucky to have caught it.
