Wednesday Vignette, perfection

Faithful blog readers will no doubt recognize this vignette from the garden covered in Monday's blog post, and countless other posts over the years. It's such a dreamy vignette that I needed to let it stand on its own. Leucadendron argenteum, the silver tree, on the left and Agave ovatifolia on the right, from the Kuzma/Halme garden, of course.

  1. I Googled Leucadendron argenteum and found its "an endangered plant species in the family Proteaceae, which is endemic to a small area of the Cape Peninsula, South Africa.".
Although I knew the Protea is the national flower of S. Africa, I had no idea it was endangered. This makes today's vignette that much more special.

    1. I think they're only referring to the silver tree (Leucadendron argenteum) as endangered. The regular shrubs, which give us those luscious Protea flowers, are just fine.

  2. You mean to say that that Leucadendron actually SURVIVES here?? I love them so - that would be amazing... I always thought they were all tender. Going to try commenting without using the Anonymous option. Fingers crossed...

    1. Ha! No. Well yes, but only if you're willing to build a cover for it and heat it over the winter. Left on its own? Not a chance.

      Commenting as yourself worked!!!

  3. Gorgeous combo! I think I could make that work out here? Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. It's worth a try! Although since Kris mentioned (below) that she couldn't make it work in her garden you might check with her first.

  4. Didn't know how else to contact you...and not sure what exactly you could do to help, but Hortus TV has just notified subscribers that they will be going out of business. I went on their facebook page and read that they could not sustain a large enough base of subscribers. This is a terrible loss to North American gardeners. I thought you should know.

  5. Gorgeous but interesting to read the hardiness comments. I can never tell with PNW gardens what stays out and what must come in.

  6. It's a gorgeous plant and beautifully paired with the agave. Every time you feature it I feel compelled to look it up again to remind myself why trying it here would be a bad idea.

  7. The Kuzma garden is strong on focal points and this is surely one of them--or two of them ! The silver tree is the plant that prompted me to ask John what he does to protect it and others. Zonal Denial lives !
