Wednesday Vignette, IKEA Rimforsa hack

Did you know there's an entire website dedicated to alternative uses for IKEA products? Well actually there's probably more than just one but IKEA Hackers is the one I'm familiar with. Of course just walking through any IKEA inevitably produces a few hacks as well, the display designers are given pretty free range to be creative and each store is different. When I visited our local store to pick up a couple more of the .79 Sunnersta containers I used in my greenwall installation I took a couple phone photos of their Rimforsa hack...

Spice vials

As vases, yes please.

  1. I didn't know there was such a website, but I will definitely check it out. I think cool stuff is all around us. It's the limitations of our imagination that prevents us from seeing it. IKEA is often great inspiration, and also that old saying "necessity is the mother of invention". Few things are truer...

    1. Indeed! Being rather strapped for cash in my 20's had me dreaming up all sorts of creative, low cost, solutions to my design challenges.

  2. I haven't been in an Ikea in years (my husband hates the place but then he hates most stores) but that Rimforsa is a cool tool. Did you bring one home?

    1. I did not, no space for one! My husband has a love hate relationship with IKEA, as long as we go on a weeknight when there are very few other shoppers he gets positively giddy.

  5. Clever and clean look. The Seattle IKEA is close to my work. I should visit after work one evening.

    1. I used to stop by there before heading back to Portland, before we got our own IKEA...but it's been years now. I worked at that store briefly, before it even opened I left. It was not my cup of tea.

  6. Each Little World: Who knew. Not living near an Ikea I guess I am missing a lot!

    1. Or not. They're good for many things...but I suspect not really your style.

  7. Would love to be able to source one of these spice racks. I have a friend that now has an incomplete set and for sentimental reason it would mean the world to be able to get him a replacement set. Does anyone know where one could be found. It appears they are discontinued.
