Wednesday Vignette - sunshine on cinnamon spikes

My friend Anna, who blogs at Flutter & Hum, has started weekly posting called: Wednesday Vignette. Her concept is explained here, but can be summed up as a celebration of combinations that inspire. I've wanted to join in the theme for weeks now, but since I don't usually post here on Wednesdays (it's my day to write for the plant lust blog) I haven't. This is the day!

My vignette is, at its most basic level, about this cactus growing in an arching planter; a vintage piece that would have originally been part of a set.

When I found it there was only the one piece, which kind of made me love it even more.

The cactus fingers came later, they seemed like the perfect addition.

The key other part of this vignette is visible in the background here, behind the bigger vase.

When we got our old windows replaced a couple weeks ago we opted for awning windows on the bottom third of our previous picture window. Being able to open them, for fresh air and views, well, we're loving it. The plants are loving the extra light flooding in the new windows.

  1. For a moment I thought the curved vase was attached to the tall one behind it. Such a great idea to put in those cactus in it, spiky slithering creatures poking out of it! And can just imagine the new joys of having those windows.

  3. The cactus thorns look so sweet and soft like little flowers or eyelashes. Love this use for the vintage one of a set piece.

  4. I love seeing the photos of inside your house as much as the outside. You are a true artist.

  5. Those cacti reminded me of some Mammillaria I was lusting after on Arid Lands Greenhouses website. It was down for quite a while but it's back up now! I need to go through my wishlist again to see what they have in stock.

  6. What a great vignette! I love how the little cactus fingers are sticking out of MOSS!!! That's almost as unexpected as that fern growing out of the bottom of that devilish cactus pot... That curved planter and the pot behind it look like they were made for each other, and I SO covet your new windows. Totally dreamy... And thanks for joining in!

    1. Did I tell you that fern didn't make it? It fried while setting in the driveway on a sunny day. So sad.

  7. Joy to the Bohls. It's a new anthem for spring and summer. I keep meaning to get it together to join Anna's meme. It's a good one.

  8. I am just dying over all the great colors and textures here, and how perfectly they work together. The different shades of brown and green, the plants, the walls, such super color choices. (Even the dog...!) Love the cactus family.

  9. your house is so bright and light! Love the cacti and vintage ceramics combos. I always love seeing that and need to work on creating some cool ceramic planter/succulent moments at my casa.
