Looking at plants...

My birthday was last weekend and I received a fresh batch of vintage plant and people photos from Andrew. Also, I'm just back from the whirlwind Garden Fling in the Puget Sound area where spent a lot of time looking at plants, so this one seemed like a good picture to share today. Of course none of those plants were cholla, but there were agaves, a few cactus, and many gunnera and hydrangea. Most importantly there were a lot of fabulous people!

I've never been one to rush home and start posting about the Fling gardens, in fact I still have adventures from last year's Fling in Philly to post! But I'm sure the 18 gardens (and one cool garden market) I visited over the 4 days of the Puget Sound Fling will work their way into my posts over the coming weeks and months. Meanwhile, I've got some plants to water! (huh, I don't think I've ever gotten a vintage photo of someone watering their garden...)

If you're curious about the Garden Fling read more on the Fling website, here. Next year will be held in Memphis, TN on June 5-8, maybe you'll be there?

  1. You're developing a massive postcard collection featuring desert and other succulent plants! Once again, happy birthday! I've only just downloaded almost 1000 photos taken at the Fling and started weeding through and organizing them. I've yet to post anything on my blog (or IG) related to either the Fling or my garden as I gave the needs of my own space priority upon my return. I'm sorry I missed the extra day in Seattle as the photos look great. I look forward to all your future posts, whenever you put them on the docket.

    1. A lot of them are just photos, not postcards. They'd make a fun photo album with those old paper photo corners. I was at around 2,000 photos, ridiculous really. I've yet to break them out into their respective gardens but I'd better be doing that before my memory gets too hazy.

  2. One more day of driving for me, and the memory card will be in my PC first thing. Watering next. Love that postcard !

    1. Wow, photos before plants... I'm not sure what to think of that.

  3. Can't believe it is over already. Your post makes me realize I can spread the Fling posts out in time the way one takes a gentle saunter with a cocktail through a garden on a hot Sunday afternoon. I will never take the quality of photos that many of the other flingers did, but I gosh darn it, I was there, fully present with all 6 senses, and having the time of my life. It will be nice to go through the photos and see what lessons I take from it all.

    1. I'm so glad you enjoyed the Fling! And that you didn't feel the pressure to photograph much. For me it's part of how I process. Looking at the photos later I am able to enjoy it all over again. We see so many fabulous gardens on an event like this, I would never be able to remember it all without the pics.
