The Vercler Castle, again
During our recent Spokane adventure Andrew and I stopped by to visit my brother Ryan at his new place. I was thrilled to discover he now lives near the Vercler Castle! (original post on the "castle" here, follow up post here).
Unfortunately (but fabulously) foliage now covers a great deal of the structure. If you haven't seen it before I really recommend clicking on the above links.
I stuck to my usual rule about staying on the public right-of-way. No trespassing while photographing.
Those two rather cartoonish structures on poles are new since my last visit.
For what it's worth the city has also required the street-side buildings be lowered... public safety or some such thing.
Still, it's fun to visit...
If only from the street.

Checked out your earlier posts so was interesting to see its evolution. Currently I can envision it sort of like a romantic ruin lost in the foliage. Very cool. Awesome that you got to finally visit your family.
ReplyDelete"a romantic ruin lost in the foliage"... perfect!
DeleteAnd he says he is not a sculptor or artist!? I think this is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteExactly!
DeleteWell, now that you've seen the castle in winter, spring and summer, you'll have to make a point of checking it out in the fall season at some point. I like it best dripping with green foliage. I'm guessing that the "cartoonish structures on poles" are bird houses?
ReplyDeleteYes you are probably right, bird houses! I bet the fall foliage is pretty spectacular. Maybe I can get my brother to take a couple shots.
DeleteI hadn't seen your previous Vercler posts. The property is so cool. I like folks who are able to think outside the box. I love it.
ReplyDeleteThis one is definitely outside the box.
DeleteBeen there and walked through the whole property. It's mind boggling that it is the work of one person.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of your visit when I posted these photos.
DeleteStill amazing after all these years. Like Simon Rodia's Watts Towers, only a house in Spokane.
ReplyDeleteI need to visit the Watts Towers someday...
DeleteI remembered this castle from your previous posts, it is rather unforgettable!
ReplyDeleteWhile the winter scene is foreboding, I find the lush summer green makes the castle mysterious, romantic even. I don't suppose you'll visit again in the next few months, but if your parents can do a drive-by around Halloween and report back...
I'll let them know you asked!
DeleteI live on 25th and drive past this house fairly regularly. Always been curious about it and finally remembered to look it up. I'll bet the place is a hoot for trick-or-treaters on Halloween!
