I think this is a first; the flame-like flowers of my Embothrium coccineum are still going strong when the yellow-green bottle brush blooms of Callistemon viridiflorus open. Or maybe this is just the first year the callistemon has been tall enough for the two to appear together.
Either way I like this meet up of Chile (the embothrium) and Tasmania (callistemon). Think of the blue sky as a stand-in for the South Pacific ocean waters that would normally separate the pair.

The yellow-green Callistemon is unusual and outstanding. The two blooms together AND the blue sky... you hit the trifecta.
ReplyDeleteThe combo makes me so happy!
DeleteSo far apart, and yet so little in between!

Ah, I know what OPB programming you've been watching.
DeleteIt's a pretty combination. The Callistemon viridilorus Tamara sent me last year is producing new leaves and growing ever so slowly but I look forward to the day (not likely to be this year or probably even next) when it blooms.
ReplyDeleteSuch a knock out plant, hope you don't have to wait too long.
DeleteOoh, I like how you think! How poetic! And I can't believe how tall your Embothrium is.... mine has barely grown at all. I think it's about a foot tall at this point. So, feeling a sting of envy over here... My Callistemon, on the other hand is taller and more floriferous this year, than ever before! So fluffy and yellow - I love it!
ReplyDeleteMy Embothrium shot up quickly to avoid sun competition from the neighboring plants—it blooms a lot and for a long time. A drawback is that the blooms are so high in the sky I can't walk right up to them.
