"The Accidental Dry Garden" at the Northwest Perennial Alliance 40th Anniversary Annual Membership Meeting

Coming up this Sunday, Sept 15th, I'll be at the Bellevue Botanic Garden giving a talk for the Northwest Perennial Alliance called The Accidental Dry Garden.

In the presentation I'll share information on how my front garden came together, and talk about what it means to have a dry garden—something I didn't set out to create, but I have.

There will be a lot of plant talk, because after all the plants are what it's all about.

Anyone can register for the talk and watch online (an ambitious undertaking by the NPA, both an in-person and online event!), although I think the information I share will be best appreciated by those gardening in the summer-dry PNW gardens of Southern British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon, especially those west of the Cascades. You can register here. It would be great to see familiar and friendly faces!

  2. This looks like an amazing presentation, Loree. Whether you set out for a dry garden or not, dry gardening is our reality and showing there are amazing plants out there matched to our summer dry climate is fantastic! I'll have to look into the online zoom version of this talk. Fabulous.

  3. I live not far from Culp (southeast PA) and I don't consider acanthus mollis to be waterwise. Mine is in shade, but under a large maple with greedy roots, and it suffers terribly when we're dry for more than a couple of weeks in the summer -- a common condition in the last several years.

    1. Thank you for the reality check! I know the climate is changing for us all, those of you that are used to regular water are now going longer without. We all have to learn to be resilient don't we?

  5. I'd love to see it, I'll be stuck in a car at the time though. Do I have to be there "live" to watch?

    1. You do not, if you register for the Zoom event they'll send you a recording that you have a couple weeks to watch.

  6. This is fun! I just registered for the online lecture, because we can all use strategies and maintenance help in our dry gardens. Bravo to NWPA for making it available to all.
