Wednesday Vignette; wooden ranunculus

Andrew came back from a recent walk and handed me these wooden ranunculus blooms.

Well, that's what they look like, right? He warned me they were on the verge of falling apart, another he picked up disintegrated in his hands.

A little online sleuthing and I discovered they're the top portion of cedar cones.

Turning them over I see it. Pretty cool aren't they?

  1. They are beautiful. Such a lovely rich chocolatey colour. Andrew has a good eye.

  2. Oh, I love cedar cones! They are so beautiful - and also so sticky! You made good use of them in that beautiful still life.

  4. It's always a good thing when a husband brings something like that home, just because he thought you'd appreciate it.

  7. I keep many natural treasures I find on my walks. Not only are they beautiful but they lasts longer than any bouquet of flowers. It's difficult tossing them, even after time had passed.
You've made a lovely display: what's the long branch with the curly leafs?

    1. That's a Mahonia eurybracteata "branch"... the leaves look like curly ribbon!
