Some sights seen in SE Portland

September 12th I visited five gardens in SE Portland on a garden tour with the Association of NW Landscape Designers (ANLD). A post on the gardens I saw will be up on Friday, but today I thought I'd share a few other sights I saw that day, starting with this hellstrip I parked by when I stopped to take a phone call...

I suspect the cement blocks were put in place to prevent tents from going up, for overnight (or even long term) camping by the unhoused.

Were they painted in place here? Or moved here after being painted elsewhere?

I suspect painted in place is the answer, but for a few minutes at least I was getting Lovejoy Columns vibes.

I'm not sure if these words have anything to do with the other pieces or not? They would seem to based on the proximity.

A few blocks away I came across this garden.

My favorite part was this small planting on the diagonal.

Fabulous attention to detail.

Moving along...

The sunflowers sort of set the scene for the whole garden.

Back staircase, not in use.

There's definitely an artist in residence.

Strawberries on the loose!

Back to the corner.

And from across the street.

One more interesting sighting, dots!

I absolutely loved the dots, I wonder if they green up over the winter with the rain?

The Bit at the End
I've enjoyed reading the recent travelogues on the Juniper Level Botanic Garden blog; Botanizing in Italy and Corsica. Part 1 features an unbelievable moment on a British Airways flight from London to Florence where the passengers were all sprayed with insecticide, seriously. Read it here. That post also includes a photo of a sweet little Agave americana ‘Marginata’ corral outside their Florence airport hotel. The other parts of the of the travelogue are entertaining as well, read them on the JLBG Blog.
