Palm Springs!

Sadly no, we aren't headed to Palm Springs. Instead we're now four full months on the ground, at home. What I wouldn't give for a nice getaway! So I give you Palm Springs, or at least one family's brief visit. After all they don't look like they live there, do they? "Ethel and Jimmy, get out and go pose by those cactus"...
Looks like their visit was in September of 1938. I briefly wondered if they were visiting the Moorten Botanical Garden and Cactarium, but it turns out the folks who built that gem had just moved to Palm Springs in 1938.

  1. A Thursday Vignette!
This lovely photo looks like something Andrew discovered digging around in a cool and funky, pre-Corona, thrift store, and saved it for your birthday. Although it's too early for that, I believe. Nostalgia for the days when young boys were slim and trim and needed a belt to hold up their pants. I love the word cactarium!

    1. Good memory! Next month is the birthday month, and you're right in that it came from Andrew, I think it was part of my Christmas gift. I think he ordered it from the comfort of his chair...although thrift shopping sure sounds good about now! As for the belt, ya...good point.

  2. She looks a lot like my grandmother (and would have been about the same age). My dad would have been 14 in 1938. Such similarities!

  3. Cactus were probably novelties then. How many postcards like this have you collected?
