One of my "must see" destinations during last week's trip to Los Angeles was Pitzer College in Claremont, CA...imagine a college campus where the grounds are managed by the former curator of the Desert Garden at the Huntington. Ya, it's good, very good. I spent two hours wandering the campus and snapping photos.
I have many images to share in a future post(s) but today just a stylized Aloe and vampire (?) vignette..

Well thats a great shot. I look forward to the rest of the pictures from Pitzer.
ReplyDeleteThanks! It may take me awhile, but eventually...
DeleteNifty picture! Wouldn't it be fun to go back to school in a warm climate?
ReplyDeleteIn my travels I went by a high school with an outside wall covered in backpacks and what looked like a class taking place outside. In January. Ah that's a different life...
DeleteNice! I went to Harvey Mudd, another Claremont College, but I was oblivious to plants at that age, so I paid little heed to the landscaping at Pitzer. I guess I was missing out!
ReplyDeleteDepending on when you went (the gardens as the are didn't get going until 2000) they may not have been so amazing!
DeleteThat's an interesting mural! Was there a description?
ReplyDeleteNope, but there were lots of other seemingly impromptu paintings around campus.
DeleteBut wouldn't you get sidetracked by gardening rather than studying? Nice juxtaposition in your WV. Hope to see you Sat. at JC.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, maybe. But that's a constant danger no matter what I'm doing! Yes, I plan to be there on Saturday.
DeleteWhat a fantastic photo! Can't wait to see more. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Pitzer last year.
ReplyDeleteWas that just last year? For some reason I'd pushed it back a couple.
DeleteMy MIL lives about a 10 minute walk from there. I guess I need to make that walk soon!
ReplyDeleteYes you do! Just plan for lots of time to wander.
DeleteGreat composition of a curious combination! I wouldn't mind a California getaway right about now. :)
ReplyDeleteI am lucky to live "just north" -- that makes an escape so much easier.
DeleteGreat shot! Love the contrasting reds with the black and white mural. It first made me think of a really dumb nun joke, but I see now that they aren't nuns. Still, thanks for the smile! :)
ReplyDeleteNow you've got me curious about the nun joke...
DeleteLove the red flowers against the graphic mural. UW campus has a beautiful display/teaching garden, historic trees with signs and just lots of great landcsaping.
ReplyDeleteThe only think I remember about the two schools I went to was lawn. Lots of lawn.
DeleteAs if you'd get any studying done with those plants around! Great photo. Looking forward to seeing more.
ReplyDeleteWords written to describe your own situation?
DeleteIt will be great to see this place through your eyes/camera -- can't wait!
ReplyDeleteGosh, I'd better get busy editing...
