I’ll admit it, I regularly say flowers aren’t all that important to me and foliage is what matters, and it's true. Still, I don’t dislike flowers, I view them as a bonus, the little piece of chocolate after a delicious meal. Who isn’t excited when a plant starts to bloom? The subject of this post is Aloe striatula. I have three plants, one in the ground…
Another in a container, where it’s lived for a couple of years…
Spending summers on the patio and winters outside, but undercover of the shade pavilion greenhouse. It’s seemed fairly happy with this arrangement.
The third is also in a container, although just since late last summer. Out of those 3 plants guess how many blooms I have? The answer is one.
ONE!
This is my next door neighbor’s plant, it’s in the ground and has been for a couple of years. It has no less than 10 blooms.
TEN!
Was it something I said? I didn’t mean it…really! Flowers are cool…

Don't feel bad. I have a clump about 4 ft tall and wide and it has never bloomed.
ReplyDeleteNow that surprises me...
DeleteYou shouldn't have said you only like one piece of chocolate. Me, I could eat the whole bar and don't mind telling!
ReplyDeleteOkay maybe two pieces?
DeleteDon't worry they take a few years to become established, and the ones next door seem to be much more sizeable plants. Yours will only get better every year.
ReplyDeleteThe one next door is very happy where they planted it that's for sure.
DeleteYou have to be careful what you say around your plants, LOL. What a fabulous bloom on that plant!
ReplyDeleteSee I always knew they could hear me...
DeleteI'm going out to have a close inspection of mine ...in the ground . Happy noise day !
ReplyDeleteSo what did you find?
DeletePretty colour, they remind me of bananas, maybe next year if you talk nicely to your plants.
ReplyDeleteI guess I should start now...letting them know how much I am enjoying the single bloom.
DeleteThey can be erratic with their blooming pattern, some years they can be generous whilst some they are sparse or none at all.
ReplyDeleteAh so maybe next year will be my year!
DeleteYour plants know that you arent that bothered about flowers so they arent bothering!! Though it is a little galling I'm sure
ReplyDeleteYes it is. I forgot to mention that a friend who bought one of these at the same time and place that I did also has hers bloom, where as mine never has...
DeleteOh dear, I completely forgot about mine. It disappeared for a couple of years, came back last year and has now gone AWOL again...never mind about bothering to send up a flower.
ReplyDeleteI lost one a couple of years back too, it did that same die, reappear, die for good thing...
