Okay, no, not really puppies... plants! We'd just set down to dinner when I saw a lady I didn't recognize hauling two plants up to the front porch. Before I could get to the door to talk with her, she was gone.
She left a note.
Questions! I have so many questions! Do I know her? Does she follow my blog/Instagram? Did she see the
little free library in the hellstrip and think this was a good location to rehome?
I also have plant ID questions! Is this a Euphorbia mellifera, or an E. stygiana? (look at that amazing foliage!)
Neither Euphorbia is completely hardy here in Portland, and it looks like this one (whichever it is) suffered some damage at some point in the past.
This one is obviously a tree fern, I'm thinking Cyathea cooperi (Sphaeropteris cooperi).
If you've got thoughts on the proper ID of either of my new puppies I'd love to hear them! And if you're the lady who decided my place was the right place to leave them, thank you!

DeleteSo sweet that she's trying to find a winter home for these babies and thought of you. I'm feeling the say way about sorting things out for winter. The euphorb looks like stygiana to me, which reseeds like crazy.
ReplyDeleteIt might reseed like crazy but first it needs to bloom. I've never had one live long enough to do that. We shall see.

Oh I see it as generous. The more I think about it I think she must have read my blog at least some. They're both plants I've written about in the past, so it's not like she dropped off a flat of petunias. They're cool plants that if I decided I didn't want I'd have no trouble passing along.
