Back to June in Colorado and the 2019 Garden Blogger's Fling, today we visit the Deemer Garden. Also known as the garden with wine, tasty snacks, and kind hosts who let us use their bathroom. Hey, these things are important!
About the garden (from our Fling materials): The home and property were distressed and in foreclosure and in need of a complete makeover. Our initial plan was to focus on sustainability while creating a beautiful, highly functional outdoor living experience, inspired by the fusion of nature and art. There is a wide selection of perennials that allow for cutting throughout the year. We have a permaculture area with both fruits and vegetables, and we also have three bee colonies.
About the owner: Scott Deemer is the owner of Outdoor Craftsmen LTD, a leader in the Boulder Landscape design-build industry.
Garden goals: We wanted a sanctuary where we live in harmony with nature and art. I find that the landscape is sculpture on a grand scale.
Looking to the right (at a neighbor's house) as you enter the front garden...
Love these huge containers! (there was a pair)
I also love the way they worked metal into the rocks.
I walked around the side garden while of most of my comrades went through the house. This furry character was lounging in an empty lot next door. I had the feeling he saw the bus pull up and thought "I'm getting the hell out of here!"
Walking though the veggie garden...
There was such a nice transition from gardened area to the ungardened land beyond, you'll see it again in other photos.
More metal meets rock.
People were drawn to the fire, even though (as I recall) it was a warm afternoon.
Yep, more metal meets wood.
And the pond/pool!
If you step up to the top of the garden this is what's above...
Horseshoes at the ready.
I have to admit I really liked this.
Our gracious hosts also encouraged us to go upstairs (through their bedroom) to look down on the garden from a balcony above...
Flingers gotta put their feet in the water, it's tradition.
