Out was the festival's usual floral design competition and in was the high fashion of a "Bespoke Flower Event"...
Only one mannequin was in the lobby, the other twelve were in the main room of the convention center, which meant they were under the same dramatic lighting that makes it difficult to take photos of the show gardens. This design was by Flirty Fleurs...
The umbrella design was fabulous.
From Coree Ryan at Zupans Market...
From Ondine
The woven palm fronds were a fun touch.
Garden Party Flowers
The headdress and mask were gorgeous.
I think this was my favorite, from Tobey Nelson.
I believe the dress is made from Leucadendron argenteum leaves.
From Hazel Landscapes + Design
Note the fur sleeve trim on her moss coat...
Nice detail work!
The floral explosion at the base was also very well done.
Leah Erickson Floral is responsible for this revealing dress with the huge floral cape.
And the last mannequin I took photos of is wearing an outfit by Terra Bella Flowers.
While was a Fleurs de Villes was a marvelous collection of talent and creativity I hope it doesn't permanently replace the regular floral competition at the show. It was over-the-top fun, but not something I'd want to see every year.

I agree that seeing something like this annually would get old fast. That said, there were some brilliantly creative concepts here. And yes, I want a floral umbrella!
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see what the show officials decide to do.
DeleteI was so impressed by the mannequins' outfits. I marveled at the creativity of the designers and couldn't pick a favorite. I was thrilled to see something new in a show that doesn't change much year to year. This was by far more exciting the floral arrangements, but maybe if they can have a few of both, to satisfy all tastes.
ReplyDeleteReading your comment I was thinking you could have been standing right next to me while I took one of these photos and I wouldn't have even known it was you!
DeleteMy mom and I were blown away by the creativity of each mannequin. All so different. Your photos captured details that I missed so great to see your perspective. One of my favourites was the dress created from asparagus fern fronds.
ReplyDeleteThat outfit was one I didn't get a halfway decent photo of...but it was definitely creative!
DeleteI wish the mannequins had been matte, the shiny plastic was a bit flashy next to the natural materials. Not really my thing, but it was fun to admire the creativity.
ReplyDeleteI heard a lot of criticism about the mannequins, in addition to the shiny finish there was the question of why they were all white.
DeleteI agree, they were fabulous this year but it'll be nice to see the floral competition return.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed!
DeleteAs good as the fashion houses put out... they really pulled out the stops on this one! Some truly talented designs there. Thanks for sharing the photos, Loree!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed them Eliza!
DeleteI smiled as soon as I saw some posts of this exhibit over the weekend and I appreciate this more detailed review (as well as the ability to see the photos on something larger than my iPhone 5s screen). As you might imagine I love the over-the-top floral/foliage displays.
ReplyDeleteGlad to help, wish you could have seen them in person!
DeleteEvery show needs a little over the top action ! These were fun to peruse. The ever-declining SF Garden show finally put up their seminar schedule a couple days ago-not a single person I've ever heard of.I really wanted to come to Seattle this year but the schedule did not jive. Maybe next year ...
ReplyDeleteHopefully next year! So are you going to the the SF show?
DeleteI think these are so creative. It reminded me of the rose bowl parade floats. Over the top.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed! Excellent comparison.
