Today marks ten years since I hit publish for the first time on this blog. Are you wondering how many posts that is? Two thousand six hundred and fifty six...2,656! That's a lot of garden talk.
I looked back to see who made the first comment, and ignoring the one from my coworker who was sitting next to me when I published, it was Pam Penick of Digging. How appropriate, since she was a big reason I started reading garden blogs in the first place. Thinking back on why I started to blog I remember feeling I had something to add to the gardening conversation. Even though blogging isn't as immediate as say a post on Facebook, or Instagram, it is still a conversation. The thousands of comments left here each year prove that.
The people I've met through blogging have become such an important part of my gardening world. These include my fellow bloggers, people who comment, and people who never comment but introduce themselves when our paths cross in person. Thank you for sharing this adventure with me.
I have learned so much through blogging. Perhaps the most surprising of all—to me at least—is a love of writing. I've been an avid reader my entire life, but never a writer until blogging. I suppose that's why the news I am about to share still takes me by surprise, I'm working on a book!!! The fine folks at Timber Press approached me to ask if I was interested, and I said yes.
Me, write a book? Who would have thought!
I'm a few months into the process, the BIG date on the calendar is in early November, 2019. That's when I am due to hand over all the words and photos I'll have spent a year putting together. Around a year after that and I'll be holding a book, MY book, in my hands. Soon after that I hope you will be too.
I've been fairly consistent in my posting here, maintaining a Monday through Friday schedule with a few exceptions. As the long-form project takes more and more of my time that will change I'm sure. I'll miss a day or two here or there—danger garden will remain a priority—it just has to share my time with the book, and the garden.
Thank you for coming by all these years, I look forward to sharing the next part of this adventure with you...
- Loree
Congratulations on ten years and your book! I hope that means in two years you will be a seminar speaker at the Northwest Flower and Garden Festival. I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteThank you! And I think it might...
DeleteHurray for your book -- it's about time!
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise!
DeleteCongratulations on ten years; I had found Danger Garden long before I got into blogging or even blog following. And I’m thrilled to read about your upcoming book!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy! I'm so glad you're back to blogging after your move.
DeleteCan't wait to see the Big Book of Danger! Congratulations, Ms. Loree.
ReplyDeleteHa! Love that title. Thank you for all of your support and encouragement. It means so much to me.
DeleteCongratulations Loree. Your writing has been an incredible resource these past 10 years. I am very much looking forward to your book!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeremy, that's a wonderful thing for you to say!
DeleteI feel fortunate to have found your blog. It gives me great pleasure and expands my plant knowledge. Blogging is a huge commitment; I hope you have the energy and desire to continue for many more years. I'm thrilled about your book. It will come out just in time for my birthday!
ReplyDeleteI'm thankful for regular commenters like you that stop by to chat, you make it all worthwhile.
DeleteWoo hoo!
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki!
DeleteSo excited for you, my friend! Congratulations on ten years and 2,656 posts! That is, indeed, a lot of garden talk and ww, your faithful fans, have enjoyed every word. Can't wait to see your book. Will you have a special book release/signing party? You could serve punch (spiked of course) or a tequilla based signature coctail...
ReplyDeleteThank you Peter! And I like the way you think...
DeleteCongratulations! The celebration photo makes the danger garden look especially dangerous...
ReplyDeleteThank you! And you know, truth in advertising...
DeleteHappy 10th anniversary! I am so excited you are writing a book. Hope it is the 1st of many. I ready your blog regularly and it is one of my favorite morning things to do on my break. HUGS
ReplyDeleteThank you Laurin, I am so glad we've met though our blogs, see you in Denver!
DeleteI am DELIGHTED by your news. As I recall, I've badgered you a few times about writing a book. I'm glad Timber Press stepped up with the right carrot. Happy 10th anniversary too! Your blogs (as well as Pam's) was among the very first I followed well before I surfaced with comments and a blog of my own.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, you were one of the first to mention a book and have kept at it! Thank you. And I am so glad you started, and are still, blogging. You're one of those wonderful people I wouldn't have met any other way.
DeleteWow! Congrats on ten years of blogging; you were one of my main inspirations when I began blogging. It's been such fun over the years sharing your garden adventures on the screen–and in real life. And wow–a book! That's fantastic news. You are a great writer and a book will put the virtual icing on your blogging cake. I love Patricia's "title" for your book, (or is that actually its title?) I'm thrilled that you and Timber Press are in cahoots!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jane, you were one of those first commenters that kept me going and I'm so glad you're still blogging too! Patricia's title is a good one, although I don't know if it would get by the powers at TP...
DeleteThat is fabulous news! I look forward to reading you each day so I will miss you not being quite as prolific. I must admit you and Peter keep me posting M-F. Can't wait to hear more as this project moves forward.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda...and I promise to not be a slacker! After all habits are hard to break.
DeleteI am happy for you Loree. Congratulations all around. I can't wait for your book There is Always an Agave. ;)
ReplyDeleteDone "Where's Waldo?" style, right?
DeleteCongrats, Loree! Very cool! I love reading your blog, can't wait to read the book!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeanne!
DeleteOMG!!!! That's AMAZING news! How very, very cool! I don't envy you the task of going through ten years of photos and trying to figure out which ones to use, though, but hopefully you are far more organized than I am in that regards. Anyway, congratulations to you! A well earned honor, I might say! And, I can't wait to read it! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Anna! And remind me to tell you about those 10 years of photos someday...
DeleteWOOOO HOOO! Way to go, Danger. That is a huge commitment (10 years), you have not gone astray and for that I bow my head in humble appreciation. Thank you for all you have done for the gardening community the past 10 years. You are a rock star. Seriously. xo
ReplyDeleteThank you! You had me laughing with "you have not gone astray..."
DeleteAah, it is tempting sometimes to give up blogging. And I don't know why I'm seemingly "unknown" or anonymous here...anyhoo - it's me, Chickadee Gardens. Any hints on the book's topic? Can't wait to add it to my library!
DeleteYou're unknown no longer! The voice was familiar, I knew the comment came from someone I knew, I just couldn't figure out who! Oh and yes, the book will be on (drum-roll...)... gardening!
DeleteCongratulations on both , and I'll shift my gardening books about and save a little( or big) space for yours.
ReplyDeleteI am honored.
DeleteTEN YEARS! Awesome! I love your blog and it has been a great inspiration to me. Thanks for all your work.
ReplyDeleteJeannie@GetMeToTheCountry
Thanks for coming by Jeannie!
DeleteOh my god Loree, that is so fantastic. How clever those folks at Timber Press are to have solicited your authorship. And thank you for sharing the Danger Garden with us for these past ten years.
ReplyDeleteAh, thank you Kathy!
DeleteCongrats on the book!!! Oh and that little 10 year anniversary thing too. I’m not at all surprised by you creating a book — I’ve been a avid reader of your blog for a long time and it just seems natural. I just can’t wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteMe too! (see it) Thanks for coming by Amy!
DeleteThank you for so many years of inspiration. You've been a huge influence on my own evolution as a gardener.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect occasion to unveil your book baby! I'm so happy and excited for you.
What a nice thing to say! I just went back and found your first post (https://www.succulentsandmore.com/2010/10/welcome.html) looks like you'll be celebrating a decade next year! I wonder how we found each other's blogs? Seems like I've been reading about your plant adventures since the beginning.
DeleteSoooo excited for you about the book! And congrats on your 10-year anniversary! I have loved reading Danger Garden since...well, apparently since my first comment on your blog all those years ago. I can hardly believe 10 years have gone by since then, but I'm thrilled to know you and wish you many more years of blogging and writing and happy gardening.
ReplyDeleteRight!? Ten years! And just think, it's been almost 8 years since that auspicious meet-up at the Portland Airport.
DeleteHow exciting for you and for us too. We will get to read your book and I am sure it will be as wonderful and informative as your blog posts. I am always so impressed by your naming knowledge of plants. And congrats on your bog anniversary. Like you Pam was instrumental in introducing me to the blogging world.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny, and remember it's easy to name plants when I'm sitting in front of a computer. I'm not so good out in the wild...
DeleteThat's so awesome, both the book and the ten years of consistent blogging! I can't wait to hear more about your book topic & to be able to buy it in glossy tree form!
ReplyDelete"glossy tree form"....ha! You made me spit my coffee.
DeleteCongratulations! I didn't know you were writing a book. That is very exciting!
ReplyDeleteThanks Phillip!
DeleteHuge congratulations, Loree. You have inspired me over the years for so many reasons, I cannot thank you enough. Timber Press made a brilliant move when they asked you to write this book, it will be amazing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sheila!
DeleteAstute of Timber Press to press you into service. Ten good years of writing have brought you recognition and this is obviously just the beginning.
ReplyDeleterickii
Thanks for sticking with me all these years! I'm so glad you're still blogging.
DeleteCongrats on 10 years - a big accomplishment and how exciting that you are writing a book - it's sure to be a bestseller! Will it be a mix or is there a specific focus?
ReplyDeleteMix with a focus? Someone on Instagram asked if there will be petunias, I think it's safe to say no.
DeleteCongratulations on your 10th anniversary (and thank you for 10 years of positive, inspiring, informative posts), as well as the new book. I will buy it, whatever the focus. You have inspired me in so many ways, whatever you write about, I will look forward to reading it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, I appreciate your words so much.
DeleteI found your blog right before Pam's and Germinatrix (nice name)...but "Danger" in the title predicted someone else got my own native plants. Until then I figured I was the only person intersted in them, blogging about horticulture, etc. I was wrong X you and many others!
ReplyDelete"The Big Book of Danger"...can't wait. Even if it ends up being about perennial gardens......
I miss Ivette's Germinatrix...those were good times!
DeleteBook?! wow. awesome job. I have admired your consistency of interesting posts - especially since I just started blogging in the last yesr and know now it's not an easy thing to accomplish. Keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteThanks Hans! I am so glad you started blogging and hope you keep on doing so.
DeleteHUGE Congratulations a bit late. Everyone is going to be shocked when they find out it's a cookbook. ;)
ReplyDeleteHow did you know? There will be recipes for Opuntia pad salad, cocktails with Opuntia fruit juice, stuffed Yucca flowers...wait...hmmm...
DeleteCongratulations and on to the next 10 years. I'm very glad to have gotten to know you and your blog. And what is the book about? Might it be a collection of your posts from the blog?
