Last week I received an email from Camille, a friend up in Washington that I met via Peter and Alison (Alison wrote about her garden here). Camille included a few Agave photos with her email and I thought this one was so fabulous I asked her permission to share it. That's Momma Cat, who became rather used to having the entire, warm, greenhouse all to herself, catnaps whenever and wherever she pleased. Momma Cat was rather dismayed when another, not so friendly, resident appeared in the greenhouse recently. Hopefully there's room for both of them to enjoy the warm, dry space...

Great picture! Both beautiful specimens, and actually both have some very poky bits on them. I'm reminded of the comment from Calvin and Hobbes, where Calvin says that five of Hobbes' six ends are pointy. My own cat not too long ago took umbrage over a small potted Agave in our upstairs bathroom, I found it with toothmarks in it.
ReplyDeleteTooth-marks on your Agave! There must be a story behind that.
DeleteCats! So jealous and territorial. I'm sure my Pipig would be equally affronted.
ReplyDeleteLucky Pipig that you don't have to bring plants into the house to over-winter.
DeleteMy first thought was WOW, Loree got a cat, how cool.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little sad this gorgeous creature wouldn't become a regular on this blog.
She is pretty gorgeous isn't she?
DeleteHow dare Camille take up Mama Cat's space? Oh well, at least it's for a good cause (plant addiction.)
ReplyDeleteHopefully Mama Cat will learn to live with it.
DeleteI can totally see why Momma Cat would be a little upset. Those Agave claws are far bigger than those of a house cat. That said, I think every greenhouse should have a resident kitty. Thanks for the reminder of what day of the week it is, Loree! My own Vignette is finally up now - LOL!

You just reminded me of a time when I was "playing" with Nigella at Cistus, in the greenhouse of course. Those claws can make puncture wounds!
DeleteMy claws are sharper than your claws?
ReplyDeleteAnd whose are the sharpest?
DeleteNo fun having private space invaded by strangers!
ReplyDeleteWhen you say it like that I certainly understand.
DeleteBeautiful Agave and Momma Cat! Sounds like kitty is very wise--hopefully she's tolerant, too.
ReplyDeleteHopefully.
DeleteI think Mama Cat is beginning to tolerate the prickly invaders, though she hasn't met the barrel cactus yet ;) She may have to cede some territory over the winter but the greenhouse is most definitely still her domain. Thanks for the fun post!
ReplyDeleteOh my, the barrel cactus. Looks so tempting as a kitty perch but ouch! Thanks for letting me share your photo.
