In a Vase on Monday — back from Paris! (subtitle: more photos of the Eiffel Tower than you may want to see)

So you may have heard (Instagram, Facebook)...I'm just back from nine days in Paris and it was wonderful! Here's a rare selfie of Andrew and I, in front of that tower everyone visits when they go to Paris...

And...I bought a vase!

Luggage space was extremely limited for purchases, but I managed to squeeze in a few things. This vase (from Le BHV / Marais, visit if you find yourself nearby) doubles as a candle holder (just remove the glass vial) and has an Eiffel Tower sort of vibe to it.

Okay so now you think I'm crazy, but seriously...maybe just a little?

Since the hellebores are all blooming, and it's too rainy to be outside to enjoy them, I cut stem of H. 'Ice 'n Roses' and lined the glass with a piece of Phormium (might be P. 'Apricot Queen').

Paris memories and a bloom to brighten the bathroom. What more could a person want?

Wait, what's that you say? You want more photos of the Eiffel Tower? Well since you asked...

No wonder it's an icon, it begs to be photographed! All of these photos (except for the very last one) were taken during a single afternoon.

First we walked around near the base of the tower but then made our way up to the Musée de l'Homme — located in the Palais de Chaillot — which provided a great vantage point.

One of my shots from a museum window.

And another, this one filtered through a lowered blind.

We enjoyed lunch in the museum cafe, I couldn't resist a toast.

The sky changed nearly every minute.

Back outside and time to make our way to the train and back to the hotel.

But not before I snapped a few more photos.

And then the lights came on!

And the sky turned a brilliant blue.

I'm thankful for the original viewing opportunity as the next time I was out that way (to visit the Parc André Citroën) the top of the tower was fogged in.

There will be LOTS more photos from Paris in the coming days and weeks. I hope I don't test your patience. In the meantime visit Cathy at Rambling in the Garden for links to other In a Vase on Monday posts!

  2. Not being connected to Instagram or Facebook, I had no idea... YOU WENT TO PARIS!!! How wonderful. There can never be too many pictures of tour Eiffel and everyone should toast this amazing city. I love the picture with the black squares in the plaza: magnifique. (That is the extent of my french, do you speak any?)

    1. I took French in high school and remember a little. It's mostly in my head though, not making it out of my mouth. Everyone there is so good at English it really wasn't a problem. Although I do wish I were better.

  3. Now that's a winter break! How exciting! I've been to Paris just once, many, many years ago but I still have fond memories of the trip. I look forward to many more photos.

    1. Clichés become cliché for a reason right?

  6. One of my favorite walking cities, as I was just telling Marty yesterday...I have a piece of pottery in the bathroom from the Bazar de l'Hôtel de Ville, so I'm a fan of travel mementos in this room too. Love your little vase, and welcome home!

    1. Thanks Denise, and yes indeed...we walked! So much. And could have walked more if the days were longer.

  7. Don't you love lots of images of one icon to see how it constantly looks different?! Great shots and lovely vase. And it does have a Tower vibe, especially since you will always make that mental connection every time you use it.

  9. I'm so happy that you got to go to Paris and that you are going to share your experience with us! This was definitely not too many photos of the Eiffel Tower. As a bad traveler who would like to travel (the spirit is willing but the flesh doesn't like it), I love experiencing travel secondhand like this. I can totally see that your new multi-use vase/candleholder shares an industrial vibe with the Eiffel Tower. It almost looks like a piece of it. I went to Paris when I was in college, I think I was 19. Gosh, that was a long time ago.

  12. One never tires of the Eiffel Tower! Your pix are great, Loree. And yes, I can see the similarity of vase souvenir to the tower. A memento of the trip of a lifetime! Looking forward to seeing more.

    1. For the most part the rain was like ours here, rather intermittent. There were a couple times it was a complete downpour though. Thank god they didn't last too long.

    1. Ya, you've probably got a pretty good idea who I am from the photos I've shared. Funny to think you can know someone you've never met just from an internet meme.

  17. I kept wondering if you were able to ride to the top of the tower and if so, you got photos. I don't mind waiting

    1. Luckily going up in the tower wasn't on our list to do, because we'd have been very disappointed if it was. The top was closed for maintenance from Jan 15th until Feb 2nd.

  19. I never could understand why friends felt Paris was magical, for whatever reason it had never appealed to me as a destination city. Then we took the train from London to Paris with dear friends that go to Paris several times a year. We walked the city for hours every day and my feelings changed. It truly is magical and I would go back in a nanosecond. Bring on those photos, I need a fix!

  20. Here goes: I think you added an option that will work for me.
I think you could ride those great photos all the way back to Paris to sell to whomever promotes the city. I especially like the shot taken through the window shade...very artsy.
