It had been a long while since I'd visited Ravenna Gardens. Hell, it'd been along awhile since I'd been to Seattle at all, how is it that I've only been managing once a year trips? I used to live there for goodness sake. I have friends there and it's only a 3 hour drive (and that includes a bathroom break!). So sad...I need to do better.
I did finally manage a visit weekend before last, and took the time to enjoy all the beauty this place has to offer.
This time of year Ravenna Gardens is the Ornamental Cabbage and Kale center of the universe. Just you wait...
This was a good sized Yucca rostrata, I didn't see a price, but then again I didn't hoist it out of the container it was sitting in.
And silly metal garden art balls too! (to grow vines on, of course)
Hmmm, ornamental and edible!
Why not tuck a pumpkin in a container?

Wait, this one is the real deal (edible, not ornamental).
It's not every plant store that can boast it's own selection of plants from Dan Hinkley's personal nursery.
Interesting things were also going on inside the shop.
I really wanted these glasses. Need? No. Want? Yes.

Ha! Not real. Fun though, very fun.

I don't usually like mixed container plantings either, but when they are done well — wow! I would have been sorely tempted at this place. Definitely liked some of the evergreens in the ground.

DeleteIt's been a couple of years since I've been there too, and I'm closer than you. Great little place, so stuffed full of things to look at. I love the saying in the last shot, it reminds me of "It's always fun until someone loses an eye," which is a great corollary to your sub-header.

DeletePNW does have the best nurseries and garden centers! I was surprisingly entranced by those stone spirals, although I suspect I'd hate their price tags. The sign was wonderful.

DeleteRavenna Gardens is a great place that I don't get to very often. Their ornamental kale and cabbage plants are swell and it's impressive that they are carrying Windcliff plants.

I did a post once about the conflict between my not liking mixed planters vs. the fact I do mix things up in my dish planters. It's odd!

I'm embarrassed to admit it but, nothing. I was tempted by lots, but it's a weird time of the year to be buying plants...and I'd just bought a couple at my previous stop.
Delete3 hours is how long it takes me to get out to the Mendocino Coast--I like a 3 to 4 hour drive for a getaway-it feels like you are Somewhere Else without the aggravation or time sink of a longer trip. I don't mind driving 6 or 7 but then it seems like you need to add a day. I'm very strategic about my road trips. I've gotten away from mixed containers too, but I usually do one by my front door and sometimes one on my back patio. But Loree, you should have mixed container summer sometime-I bet they would be fabulous ! You could blog about overcoming your aversion to mixed containers and entertain us with your creations. And we'll be here for you if the trauma is too much.:-)

DeleteI don't do mixed containers either, but that is because our semi-arid climate and endless hot summers are brutal on anything in a container, plus I am extremely lazy--so what is your reason?

DeleteI've heard about Ravenna Gardens and I've seen a few photos... but seeing it through your eyes makes me long for a visit. So many treasures. I'm yearning to find a fun nursery to wander that will allow my imagination to run wild!
