I've previously written about the bright pink Bougainvillea the dear Outlaw gifted to me last May (here). It just keeps getting better and better. Especially when backed by an Agave ovatifolia and friends...
I doubt I can overwinter it, but I will definitely be hunting one down again next spring. This is a plant I hope to never again spend a summer without, it makes me happy everyday (of course the sunshine is helping too).

Googles *sunshine*
ReplyDeleteWell that doesn't sound good.
DeleteImpeccable combination of plants, colors and textures! Chapeau!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThat is a wonderful vignette!
ReplyDeleteMakes me happy every day, since it's right outside our front door.
DeleteIt looks lovely, and MUCH happier than mine which, as might be expected, needs more sun. Maybe I'll move it up on my shed roof - there should be enough sun up there...
ReplyDeleteBut would you be able to see it up there?
DeleteThe bougie will never be a monster that takes over your garden and tries to eat your house. This is not such a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteI've seen some of those monsters, and while they're pretty...
DeletePurty but the lush bed behind with the agave ovatifolia, dark-colored daphne and friends really caught my eye. They're not to bad to overwinter if you have the space. Mine got really ugly, lost all its leaves and sulked but is looking good again now.
ReplyDeleteMy main concern is that I put it in a pot that won't be moved. So I'll have to dig it out. We'll see...
DeleteGorgeously radiant!
ReplyDeleteRadiant = the perfect word!
DeleteYou'd be ecstatic in SoCal, where Bougainvillea are everywhere. I've actually thought of planting one on the steep upper section of my backyard slope to cover up the ugliness there but I'm concerned there may not be enough sun for it to look good. And my husband would probably have a fit as he considers them "evil"...
ReplyDeleteAnd AZ. My first experience with these was my brother's old house in Phoenix. Just gorgeous!
DeleteThey are great for summer color. To overwinter I just quit watering, cut way back and stick them in the garage. Water maybe once a month and the plant will start leafing out again as soon as you bring it out into the light. I don't try to keep them going over the winter. There are some planted around the neighborhood and they almost always die back in the winter anyway.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips Shirley! My garage isn't finished, so it gets just as cold in there as outside. Perhaps I'll try the basement.
DeleteWe've overwintered Bougainvillea inside when we lived in an apartment. We just cut it back hard and watered very occasionally. We still have the plant years later. Now we over winter it in our small greenhouse. You may have luck overwintering it, assuming you have space. That always seems to be problem here and I assume it is for you too.
ReplyDeleteYep, space. The final frontier. Thanks for sharing your experience!
DeleteWhat really makes it sing are those blue-gray plants you grow. Just a luscious combo.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda!
DeleteLooks great! Those plants are loving the heat.
ReplyDeleteYes they are!
DeleteAlthough the pink flowers scream for the spot light, I think the real star is the blue agave. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteHe is a favorite...
DeleteSome things are worth the expense of buying new ones each year. I'm getting too old and cranky to baby very many things through the winter.
