This was the cover of last December's Sunset magazine, I became rather obsessed about the idea of a big, beautiful, wreath featuring Protea blooms...
And so I saved, and dried, every Protea flower I bought (or was given to me) over the last year.
It was finally time to use them! I gathered plenty of greens, and tested to make sure I had enough blooms.
While some of the greens were foraged I did buy a little fresh Eucalyptus, I wanted that great smell...
Right about here I was getting nervous that I didn't have enough blooms after all.
But my worries were for naught...
I tucked in other dried Grevillea foliage and Leucadendron blooms
A side-effect of using all these dried elements is that I don't have to worry about what temperatures they're exposed to. They're already dead!
I like it against the bright green front door...
Although it's a little distorted/muted by the glass security door.
We do keep the front door open quite a bit, it allows for more light in the house – and let's Lila keep tabs on the neighborhood. As a result we get to enjoy the wreath too...

That is so cool!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous !
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful wreath! Your wreath-making talent is incredible and you never cease to amaze me with your glorious creations!
ReplyDeleteThat is one fabulous wreath. I had to chuckle at your obsession, that made you save and dry every Protea bloom that you grew or received this year. I tend to do the same thing, but when the time comes I sometimes forget what my goal was (getting old sucks).
ReplyDeleteI usually remember what I saved, but the outcome is seldom anywhere near what I expected, unlike Loree's stunning creation.
DeleteAnd I had to checkle at the idea I grew any of these! Oh that I could...
DeleteThank you for the kind comments!
Wow, that is gorgeous and worth the year of collecting. Beautiful against the door. Love it!
ReplyDeleteYour wreath is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, Loree, and I love the subtle colors against your green door. It is simply perfect... festive for the holidays but not all red and green so it will easily carry you through the long, gray winter.
ReplyDeletewell hot damn Loree, that is fabulous !
ReplyDeleteLovely. The wreath and your pet, too.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's stunning! I had no idea you could dry protea flowers.
ReplyDeleteI learned by leaving in a vase too long without checking the water level!
Deletebeautiful!
ReplyDeleteComplete gorgeousness, well done you
ReplyDeleteThat's freakin' awesome!
ReplyDeleteIt is perfection! I have wreath lust! It complements your house and door colors perfectly. And you surpassed the lovely original totally! Merry Christmas to you and yours!!!
ReplyDeletereally nice looking! imagining what you'd do with live Proteas like we have blooming here.
ReplyDeleteI am jealous!
DeleteWow!! the wreath is beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThat may be . . .no, that IS the most lovely wreath I've ever seen. So subtle and sophisticated, and perfection with your door. I had Protea in my wedding bouquet and am very fond of it.
ReplyDeleteI bet that was beautiful!
DeleteFantastic! I love it! Love the colors, love the textures!
ReplyDeleteYours is so much more beautiful than Sunset's - well done!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's great. I'll have to save my dried up Protea flowers now.
ReplyDeleteSpectacular Loree! I have plans to invest it a Protea in the coming year so maybe you can provide a tutorial next year?!
ReplyDeleteJust remind me.
DeleteBeautiful! And it really complements the colors of your home.
ReplyDeleteI have to say you've all made my day! The wreath has made me very happy but I had no idea it would get such a great reception here!
ReplyDeleteThe wreath is gorgeous. But I also really like the potted prickly pear you've placed at the foundation. It pops beautifully against the dark brown of the house.
