I frequently walk by this vine covered fence, and first wrote about it back in 2011. Walking by a couple of weeks ago I thought it was looking particularly fetching and snapped this photo. I'm again scheming on something similar in my garden, only with metal poles. I seem to be on a passionflower kick (8 different plants at current count, although not all are winter hardy here) and need something for them to grow on next summer...
I'm linking to Anna, and her blog Flutter & Hum. Anna is the brains behind, and host of, Wednesday Vignettes. She's also the source for my most recent passionflower, a hybrid named Aphrodite's Purple Nightie (who names these things?!) - she dumpster-dived to rescue the cast off, thanks Anna!

So in love with that color... would it look as good on a less-impactful fence/arbor?
ReplyDeleteWould the color of the grape vine look as good? Gosh...I think it would look good on anything!
DeleteLoree is right - it looks good on anything. Did the start I sent you survive? Fingers crossed... if not let me know, and I can send you another one.
DeleteBeautiful grape! That fence intersection reminds me of one of those revolving gates that outdoor places like zoos had (have?) to control entry and exit. They used to scare me a bit when I was little...
ReplyDeleteYou're so right! And they kind of scared me too, I felt like I was going into a cage just like the animals.
DeleteTotally - they always wigged me out, too...
DeleteLove the color of that grape and the unusual fence!
ReplyDeleteDo you grow it in your garden?
DeleteThat is a beautiful vine, and a cool fence! Are those poles not metal? They look to me a bit like tarnished copper.
ReplyDeleteThe poles are bamboo Alison, really weathered bamboo.
DeleteLove it! That is probably the best way to deal with one of those grapes - they are so humongous! I saw a garden last week where the owner had left a huge snag standing, and trained a red trumpet vine up it. It was massive, but unfortunately both leaves and flowers were gone. I bet in summer, it is probably spectacular - like a big, red, flowering tree!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds wonderful!
DeleteStunning! Where will your version go in your garden?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea! If I just did a small section it could act kind of like a trellis and go just about anywhere...
DeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeletewow! That's really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful vine. I can only wish my own grape vine turned such a wonderful color. There's little to no fall color here this year.
ReplyDeleteTo bad you can't take a quick weekend jaunt north!
DeleteI dunno, I looked at that trellis and immediately my mother's voice popped into my head: "You're gonna poke an eye out with that thing!"
ReplyDeleteAnd that's exactly why I need one in my garden!
