I bought a Tetrapanax ...Yes, those are the babies. I bought a Tetrapanax several years ago and they are spreading. They have survived the heavy frosts we had in 2009 & 2010. The initial plant is now about 8' tall and there are 5 others (4' tall) around it (we removed a few others already). It flowered this last year (fall 2010) but I don't believe they fully opened before the snow in November. Really beautiful plant.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1018965493805276234.post-46294245884160869572010-04-02T09:28:54.937-07:002010-04-02T09:28:54.937-07:00Grace, I'd love to hear what you find!Grace, I'd love to hear what you find!danger gardenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09227500551609537140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1018965493805276234.post-15759215822638207662010-03-31T16:44:25.289-07:002010-03-31T16:44:25.289-07:00You go girl! Luckily they are in places where spreading will not be an issue (she says now...)

Les, I am hoping it's the same for me, that when the babies occur if I don't want them I can easily dig them up.

Evelyn, they are great! Especially when they reach 3 ft across!

Megan, ha! I had not heard that. Maybe it's a good thing then that the Echium is destined to be an annual here in Portland.danger gardenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09227500551609537140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1018965493805276234.post-19418206464434394472010-03-31T07:59:59.100-07:002010-03-31T07:59:59.100-07:00Probably, I hear they spread even more when you di...Probably, I hear they spread even more when you dig around their roots. I tried transplanting a division that I took from one of my runners this year, hoping the new home I've given it will make it happier than the spot where I'm not getting much success, I'll see how that turns out. I'm going for that forest, too.Meganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04563840922463701366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1018965493805276234.post-66997044254036240812010-03-29T23:56:37.921-07:002010-03-29T23:56:37.921-07:00I like their leaves.I like their leaves.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13755278209399870145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1018965493805276234.post-66387939274390823682010-03-29T17:30:58.041-07:002010-03-29T17:30:58.041-07:00Be careful what you wish for. Mine had about a dozen babies last year, they were very easy to dig up and pot to give away or move.Leshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18281256160705697856noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1018965493805276234.post-22342102666407976402010-03-29T16:03:24.771-07:002010-03-29T16:03:24.771-07:00I couldn't say for sure, but it sure looks pro...I couldn't say for sure, but it sure looks promising!
