And personally I feel there is a fine line between up-scaling things like this well, and having them end up looking like tire planters.

Peter, that place (Dig) has been on my list to visit!!!!

Hoover, oh gosh...you brought back memories with that comment...you have no idea. If we were setting in a bar somewhere with a cool tall drink I would tell all but it's not for here...

James, a yes...or perhaps a toilet re-purposed as a planter?

Ryan, the thing about Spokane is that things like this are overlooked because the culture is very different. It can of course be found at the ReStore, Rebuilding Center and even Hippo, too. I believe there's also a place in Northwest that could be googled... will ask around!katehttp://www.portlandmonthlymag.com/blogs/plantwisenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1018965493805276234.post-43331413010942335032011-06-27T14:20:05.624-07:002011-06-27T14:20:05.624-07:00Oh, wow!! ...do we have such a place here in Portl...Oh, wow!! ...do we have such a place here in Portland???Laurenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13959779241904037305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1018965493805276234.post-70099423683144649792011-06-27T10:47:41.706-07:002011-06-27T10:47:41.706-07:00great stuff Loree. The book looks interesting in that it appears to show ways you can repurpose scrap without dedicating your garden to cute welded figures made out of rusted shovels and rakes. If you ever get to Vashon Island, make a point of visiting "Dig" (a nursery.) The owners, Ross and Syliva, are masters of re-use. They also sometimes allow folks to tour their home garden (up the road a piece) to raise funds for charities; It's a fabulous example of reusing huge industrial "junk" in a pleasing, almost organic way.Peternoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1018965493805276234.post-11213840728649896302011-06-25T14:50:59.742-07:002011-06-25T14:50:59.742-07:00So many materials to play with!

I agree that it's not for everyone, more because not everyone has the creativity (or patience) to use these materials well in their gardens. But restored and rebuilt by somebody else, I bet they can be sold for a high price tag to the same people who frown upon using them in a raw state. I just like the stuff, not necessarily making it into something else. I would have loved visiting this place but would have been frustrated that things weren't priced.
