I've been known to wander off...

Put me in a garden, or a nursery, and I will inevitably end up in some corner that I shouldn't be in. Maybe it's not technically an off-limits area, but it just feels that way so the entire time I'm snapping photos I'm waiting to hear someone say "You! Hey you! What are you doing?"...

And so after I'd explored the nursery proper at San Marcos Growers I was still itching for more—maybe because there was an entire section of the nursery across the street which was locked up and we couldn't get in?—I don't know, but I needed to venture on, and I did...

I have no idea what this area is, part of the nursery? Where staff lives? Someone I recognized from the Bromeliad Summit walked through and shot me a couple questioning looks, but didn't voice any concern. She eventually disappeared through a gate I wasn't brave enough to open. She seemed to belong, where as I obviously did not.

That didn't stop me from exploring though...

The tillandsia on those shelves!

Whose collection is this?

OMG! I could have grabbed that big boy and ran...

So much tillandsia usneoides...

So many questions, left unanswered...

Out-of-bounds-wander over though. I needed to go join the group as the silent auction was about to end and I had a $5 bromeliad to win!

  1. As far as I know, your wanderings have never proven dangerous or embarrassing, which I can't say for others who shall remain nameless. They're always pretty illuminating, like this one.

I love this adventure. The first "shack" could be transformed into a quaint garden shed. I also love the tillandsia usneoides. I know where to buy it, but haven't spent the money yet. Please do keep exploring the hidden back parts of venues of where ever it is you like to wander. You have my full permission.

  3. I love how the plants hang from that giant tree...
Judging by the plant hoard, a serious plant lover is residing in the mobile home.

  4. I agree with chavliness - someone had to be living in that motorhome. Given the breadth and organization of that plant collection, I can't believe it's a short-term stay either. As to that giant Tillandsia(?) in photo 11, very, very tempting...

    1. Given the cost of living in Santa Barbara I think it's safe to assume anytime you see a motor home it's an actual home.

    1. Can you imagine if we could get it to grow as well here as it does there?

  8. I got a good "talking to" and my were parents called, when I was in 3rd grade and I was found snooping in the Principal's office. I remember I did feel kinda guilty, but I couldn't help myself! I was surprised I got in THAT much trouble. My crime was - snooping! Funny, my dad did not think it was that big a deal either. He was a little chagrined when he said, "I guess she gets that from me."
Could we call that an adventuresome spirit? I think so.
Your story is safe with me!
