Wednesday Vignette; Saguaro — four ways

Back to the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix for a look at some crazy Saguaro business...

First up a little crested vignette action. Kind of reminds me of my mystery purchase at last weekend's plant sale...

Next may I offer...the man-bun...

And the metal version. I believe this one is made out of the business-end of multiple pickaxes.

And last, the traditional Saguaro vignette, marching up a rocky hillside.

  1. Saguaro four ways. Oh how I love your kinky cactus posts. The crest at the top of the first one looks like a carrot top or a humungous bud.

    1. Gosh, now you've got me wanting to find some real cactus kink to share!

  2. That first one looks to me like a tall sculpture topped with acanthus leaves. Or maybe a curly hairdo? I could see a face drawn below it in a Disney film. Love the saguaros marching up the hill.

    1. The marching photo brings back so many memories of driving around the state and seeing hundreds of Saguaro moving across the landscape, which of course they're not...but something in their form makes them look like they are.

  3. That first one definitely looks like a cousin to the one you bought.

  4. Further proof that the top knot, or "man bun" doesn't look good on anyone, or anything. I may have tied my hair up when it was long, but I never did that, thank goodness.

  6. You crack me up! Man bun...my husband must have used it as his inspiration! And yes the first one does look a bit like your mystery cactus!

    1. We've got a neighbor who has dreadlocks, and he sometimes wears them in a man-bun...

  7. Man bun? Ha!
Great faux saguaro...I'll have to e-mail you a fake saguaro that is so realistic, but I never posted it.

  8. amazing sight! Here in Argentina in the northern provinces the tree sized cereus stenogonus create big communities that look like forests, they grow huge here! Greetings from the south!

  10. Do you know that I have never seen an actual Saguaro? So appreciate these photos even more. The first one is my favorite - what an oddball! The pick-axe one is pretty sweet, too!

  12. Fantastic. I'm sure the rusty pick axe one would be hardly in Portland or Ohio......
