Blue? Oh yes I do...

Last Saturday Hoov, over at the blog Piece of Eden, posted photos of a home in her neighborhood with a blue driveway. She wrote "Bet You Don't Have A Neighbor With a Blue Driveway!"...oh ya?

I'll see your blue driveway...

And raise you a blue sidewalk...

And a blue driveway extension...

In fact I'll throw in a blue house, with a blue roof...

No blue public sidewalk though, you can't have everything.

  1. I half want to see what the inside of that house looks like, and half afraid... I'm guessing a blue version of this: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/06/nyregion/the-green-queen-of-brooklyn.html

    1. Oh my! I want more photos!!! How can they do a story like that and only include one photo?

    2. Great story. Thanks for the link!

    3. Great link indeed! Love the Green Lady.

  2. This screams for an all-blue planting scheme I think. They need to get rid of the reds too.

(I'm not saying I like this. In fact, I've only ever seen painted concrete in basements, never outdoors before.)

    1. I could have sworn this house is the one that features pot after plastic pot of plants in the (extrawide) hell-strip in the summertime. Perhaps I'm wrong. I wanted to walk further down the street to see if that was another home but it started to rain and I wasn't dressed for it, so I headed home.

  3. Hilarious! More than one blue house in the neighborhood too.

    1. Blue seems to be a fairly popular house color around here. Perhaps to remind us (during the dark winter months) of the blue sky?

  4. this has helped me find a new appreciation for ugly old plain concrete. the blue concrete clashes painfully with the blue violet house. the blue concrete would work with a titty pink house with a grey roof. this makes me wonder if this example of painted concrete goes back to midcentury. Once it is painted it would be difficult to revert. the white plastic fence surrounding the boring landscaping is the icing on the ugly cake.

    1. I dream of getting rid of our cracked driveway and replacing it with nice permeable pavers, however I am so thankful it was never painted! I can deal with the cracked concrete.

  5. What the heck?! The blue of the house and the blue of the driveway - and everything else - don't even match or complement one another well, for that matter.

  6. I laughed out loud while reading this, as you kept showing more and more blue at this house. I'm with Alan: they need to go all-in, with blue in their landscaping too.

  7. What's with the huge royal blue "wall" across the street in the third pix? So glad I do not live next door!

    1. I wondered the same thing when I saw it. At first I thought it was a tarp (with a nasty windstorm a few weeks back there are a few roofs around town waiting their turn to be fixed...tarps are everywhere), but no - it's paint.

  8. Okay, okay, you win on blue. Now I have to go photograph the house with the concrete volcano in the front yard. Be prepared to try and top that one. ;^)

  9. Okay... you all win, I'm still laughing!!! Although it wasn't as funny when our next door neighbor's house was a very bright blue, then they asked what I thought about having their new driveway tinted blue, too. I told them I didn't think the HOA would okay the color. YES for HOA's!

    1. I would love an HOA, as long as I got to make the rules...

  10. I feel so sorry for those sad shrubs with the flat tops and skinny bottoms. And as usual, they are planted way too close to the house. :-(

    1. And it looks like they've been pruned for years to keep them proper house-hugging size.

  11. Beauty certainly is in the eye of the beholder. I can't even imagine what they were thinking...at least they could have done a complementary blue a darker shade than the house. I agree with Alan on the all blue planting scheme! And perhaps shape the big bush to look like Cookie : ) I guess I am either tone it down or go further!!!

  12. Yikes. I think that says it all.

  13. Wow. If liquid Pepto Bismol came in a blueberry flavor, it would look like this.

I think I like the patchy lawn better than anything else about this property.

    1. Ya a lot of the lawns around town are looking like that. It was a long, hot, dry summer.

  14. Good grief. And are the fairy lights blue as well?

    1. Hmmm, I'll have to do an evening walk-by to see about that.

  15. Sooo awful, wondering if the owners might be elderly and the paint is some sort of slip resistant coating obtained on sale and applied by someone who has no vested interest. Then again, the house IS blue as well.

  16. Hey, who knew pool paint was so great for sidewalks?

  17. Am I blue? You'd be too! Aren't these tears in my eyes telling you? Oh wait! These are tears of laughter.

  18. Blue is such a rare color in gardens. How clever of these homeowners to take things into their own hands. Much easier than growing those pesky blue poppies. I can't wait to do this myself. Darn, I don't have a driveway.

  19. LOL ... what Scott said. :) I seriously would be tempted to grab blue chalk and fill in the area between the driveway and the sidewalk. Better yet, it would be extra naughty to use a totally different color.

  20. I don't get it... maybe we should put blue painted driveways in the same category as plastic flamingos: hilarious in other people's yard.

    1. I kind of have a soft spot for plastic flamingos.

  21. Maybe there was a sale of blue paint in the paint shop? Maybe blue is a signal to any extra terrestrials that happen to land nearby?
