Watering a few things stashed in the shade pavilion greenhouse I noticed something pale in a sea of green.
My Brugmansia 'Charles Grimaldi' is blooming for Bloomday, how wonderful. This is the first bloom on a plant gifted to me last summer. I'm hopeful there will be many more in the future (but maybe not until next summer).
Also in the "greenhouse"...Banksia ericifolia and Grevillea 'Peaches and Cream' are looking lovely.
There are a couple of buds on the Grevillea 'Austraflora Fanfare', that's one to the right of the banksia. Maybe next bloomday?
I really should bring this bright bloom (Fascicularia pitcairnifolia) into the house where we can enjoy it's progression. Maybe after the Christmas tree is taken out.
Out in the garden proper Grevillea 'Neil Bell'...
It's put on a lot of growth this year, maybe next December we'll be able to see the blooms from the house.
Grevillea victoriae 'Murray Queen'
Grevillea ‘Poorinda Leane’ is covered in not-yet-open buds. I loved how it's fanned out over the palm, so pretty it had to be included.
Our recent windstorm did a number on the Fatsia japonica blooms, this is one of just a couple still intact. I might not get to make that fatsia/black mondo grass wreath I was dreaming about.
The rosemary (along with almost every other plant in the front garden) collected a lot of blowing leaves, there's a day of clean-up in my future. Thankfully the huge branch that fell from the neighbors Doug Fir ended up on the patio, not flattening any plants in the process.
Post bloom, but looking fabulous, Mahonia fortunei 'Curlyque'.
And in all her glory, Mahonia x media 'Charity'...
I love this plant! As always visit May Dream Gardens for links to all the bloggers posting for Bloomday, and thanks for visiting!

I love Mahonia 'Charity' too, if not for that one plant, I'd have no winter flowers (although technically, it's not quite winter yet). I need to get a hardy Grevillea with bigger flowers, if such a thing exists. My Marshall Olbricht has buds, but they're tiny, and not open yet.
ReplyDeleteNothing as large as the blooms on 'Peaches and Cream'..sadly. If you want hardy then they're all about the same size.
DeleteOh Loree, how fabulous. Dear dog, I hope my garden grows up to be like your garden.
ReplyDeleteConsidering you're less than a year in and it already looks fabulous I'd say chances are good your garden will be eclipsing mine very soon.
DeleteIt looks summery inside your shade pavilion Loree, and outside not bad either :)
ReplyDeleteWell I only shared the good stuff...
DeleteI am silly I'm forgot to include my Fatsia in my post and it's huge, I was so busy looking so fhe small primrose I forgot to look up. I do like your grevilleas, I have a couple but there is a very limited supply here in the UK which is such a pity
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised Crug Farm isn't all over hardy grevillea.
DeleteWill you be posting about the "greenhouse" again soon? I'm interested in how much walking space is in there, how you get in, how is it heated, watered, etc. I know you've covered this before, but things change each year...
ReplyDeleteYes actually, I thought I would in January. I do wonder though, what is this "walking space" you mention?
DeleteOK I give. It's time for 'Charity' to enter my life.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Past due I'd say.
DeleteMany pretties at your place. Maybe I need a Mahonia. I am afraid to check on whether Grevillea would thrive here.
ReplyDeleteI forget where your "here" is but anything short of zone 8 and I wouldn't count on it. Sorry.
DeleteWow the mahonia is impressive. And that red bloom in the fascicularia... ooh I've always wanted a brugmansia bloom but they have always died before I could get a bloom, so...congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa!
DeleteYou've got a lot of cool blooms in your garden this December and your banksia and fascicularia are amazing! Happy GBBD!
ReplyDeleteRight back at ya! When do you start Christmas break?
DeleteWow, I had no idea you had all these grevilleas in various stages of flowering. Really nice! I'm hoping my Grevillea 'Peaches and Cream' and 'Superb' will flower next year. Maybe even my Banksia baxteri.
ReplyDeleteI hope they do to, I look forward to seeing photos.
DeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteHappy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!
Lea
Thanks Lea!
DeleteYour Grevilleas are spectacular. It was surprising to see how many you have flourishing over there. I'm afraid there aren't too many of them that do well in the tropical north where I live here in Oz. It would be fabulous if I could grow as many as you do.
ReplyDeleteI am lucky, then again a few of them wouldn't make it in the ground here so I cheat a bit.
DeleteI'm making a list and checking it twice. More winter flowers needed here.
ReplyDeleteYour mahonia has let you down again?
DeleteIt is struggling, but there's some hope...not showing much gratitude for the mittens.
DeleteI thought I had a lot of Grevillea but you may have me beat - you certainly do when it comes to blooming Grevillea as I currently have just one groundcover variety in bloom and it blooms all year. Happy GBBD!
ReplyDeleteAfter loosing six (6!) groundcover grevillea last winter I only replanted one, and in a much more protected area. Sadly it's not blooming...
DeleteDang, with all the different Mahonias I have, there's not one blooming this month! Must remedy, either with 'Charity' or Heather's 'Arthur Menzies'. Happy GBBD!
ReplyDeleteDo it! Although I think 'Arthur Menzies' might be the one Ricki has such trouble with blooming (of course her conditions are different than yours, or Heather's).
DeleteYou have so many lovely grevilleas. And that banksia flower spike! (Pretty jealous that yours flowered before mine. I'm yet to see a single spike and they've been in the ground long enough)
ReplyDeleteBut I bet your plants are happier, and will get much larger, than my containerized ones.
DeleteYour Mahonia pictures are impressive!
