Meanwhile over at the neighbor's…

The same winter's day that I unintentionally stumbled upon Nancyland for the first time I also discovered this garden, just up the street. So it was somewhat fitting that the warm summer's evening that I officially visited one I got to visit the other...

After admiring the Romneya coulteri.

I entered through the arch...

I've never cared much for Persicaria virginiana 'Painter's Palette' (too busy), but here I loved it.

And the ameranth, wow!

This is a good reminder to move my black calla, it's been years since it bloomed. Too much shade.

Still those leaves are mighty fine.

Walking around the side of the house, not sure what awaits in the back garden...

Tall bamboo!

What a fabulous intimate space. The garage (I think, maybe it was another out building? The memory is a bit hazy) had been converted to a studio and sitting area.

You know I love the dense planting style.

The offerings of gardens open to visit are drying up as the weather turns cool and yes, rainy. Thankfully I still have a few more of my summer garden visits to share!

    1. The building seems to have the same use as your Jungle Hut, but a very different vibe.

  2. Just how tall are those bamboo? What a beautiful space, I need to take advantage of HPSO open gardens more often. Next year for sure.

    1. And right on the property line, I wonder how the neighbors feel about it?

  6. Oh my, it seems like a secret garden. Great design that pulls the visitor in and welcomes them when they get there. Seems like it would be a great place to spend a day!

  7. That's it, I'm growing chartreuse amaranthus next year, even tho I know full well if it looks that happy in Portland it's going to be miserable here.

    1. Not necessarily so Denise! Since it thrives in our hot dry summer don't you think it could look good in your garden?

    1. As Megan has been known to say...if you can still see dirt you're not done (plant more!).

  9. It has a very tropical feel, although maybe that's partly the rain. I vaguely remember rain...I could be quite happy sitting out a rainstorm on that covered porch.

    1. Funny you mention rain as it just returned today after a long absence. Wish I could send some to you. (the "rain" in these images was actually the owners irrigation efforts)

    1. Did you like the red amaranth at the 50th "Hollywood" house? It was cool but I like the green so much better.
