Each year I try to do a blog post encouraging everyone within driving distance to attend the Hardy Plant Society of Oregon spring plant sale, this time I’m going to use someone else’s words to tell you just what a fabulous event this is…
“This sale is probably now the biggest and best in the Northwest. With over 100 (!) nurseries present it is well worth the drive from the Seattle area. In fact, in our first year of participation in this sale last year, I met people from as far away as Bellingham, Boise and Sacramento who came to this sale because they thought it was the best one, period! And I would agree – it's a whole expo hall full of plants! And if you're in Portland, well, you're just lucky to have this event in your home town.” – Ian Barclay, The Desert Northwest
See? You should go! To further tempt you here’s a sneak peek at what Xera Plants will be taking to the sale, some friends and I paid a visit to the nursery yesterday and got a look at what they'll be dazzling you with.
Details:
- April 13th & 14th, 2013…Saturday and Sunday, 10am - 3pm
- At the EXPO Center, 2060 N. Marine Dr, Portland, Oregon
- FREE admission although parking is $8 (charged by the City of Portland)
- No strollers, wagons, or pets allowed
- 2013 Room map, Vendor List, and Cross Reference
See you there!

You're such a temptress!
ReplyDeleteI try.
DeleteI would love to visit the show Loree, but it is a wee bit too far for a day trip!
ReplyDeleteI presume that you are going? At least I will be able to view your photos when you post them up.
Enjoy your weekend :)
Indeed it is.
DeleteI am going and will do my best to take you along with me, in spirit.
Of course I'm going! The Mulch Man needs plants, too, so we will wait until Sunday. Yes, that means (maybe) fewer exciting plant morsels for me but the crowd will be at the Mulch Man's speed by then. It's all about compromise (and patience?)
ReplyDeleteIs that Mahonia fortunei 'Dan Hinkley' in your first pic? And Iris x pacifica 'Meadow Pastels' at the bottom? I'll take them both!
I've heard a lot of people are going on Sunday...
DeleteYes it is...darn I meant to point out that beautiful foliage belonged to Mahonia fortunei 'Dan Hinkley' thanks for asking! And sadly I don't know which Iris x pacifica but I'm sure they helpful Xera guys will point you (and everyone else) in the right direction!
The #/*@^ cold, complete with regular coughing fits keeps hanging on and ruining best-laid plans. Once again, I will live vicariously through you. I know you won't let me down.
ReplyDeletedamn ricki, I'm sorry!!!
DeleteI'm so pumped about tomorrow! My friends and I are descending onto this here sale with sweaty wads of cash in our hands and ready to buy some plants!
ReplyDeleteThat paints quite the picture Fifi! I wish I knew what you looked like, you might have been one of the woman I elbowed out of my way to get at a particularly good plant.
DeleteUh oh... I'd better watch what I type at midnight when I am in total zombie mode. I guess that one came out pretty good.
ReplyDeleteYep...be careful, your words might just come back to haunt you someday! (not this time, of course)
DeletePlease pick up that scrumptious iris for me!
ReplyDeleteOh Jenny...I'm sorry.
DeleteWhat is that last Iris called? It looks amazing
ReplyDeleteI've got an email in to try and get the name...I'm clueless! I'll share it if I find out.
DeleteThat Iris is just spectacular!
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteThanks for the reminder! I stopped by today and it knocked my socks off. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a fabulous time! Next year I will plan my anniversary celebrations *around* the sale. I don't want to miss it again. Cheers, Jenni
ReplyDeleteAhhh, to live in a place with a horticultural culture!
