Now there’s something you don’t see everyday!

A Prickly Pear growing out of a Palm tree... A little crazy no? As I snapped these pictures the homeowner came out of the house to get in her car, she saw me and yelled “Isn’t that weird!”…we chatted a bit, I guess it just started growing one day and she’s just let it be.

  1. That's something I would have left alone too just to see how it turned out. Pretty cool!

  3. Hahaha...that's so bizarre...I'm glad you got the backstory from the owner...at least it wasn't a case of splicing gone bad :-)

  4. Is it just one plant? It obviously likes it there!

  5. Here in the land of trash palms, we do see that a lot--all kinds of stuff growing in the leaf-bases; Impatiens seem to end up there quite frequently, believe it or not. A pad stuck in there would no doubt grow...looks cool! Nice photos.

  6. This is why I sometimes consider prickly pears vine-like in the desert SW! Very cool...

  7. Those babies would grow anywhere. I might just stick one on my palm tree.

  8. This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Very interesting indeed. Thanks so much for showing us this. I can't wait to share it with my Succulent Fanatics!

  9. Darla, I wonder what it will look like in a few more years?

    Greensparrow, and you should.

scott, now that would be remarkable!

    MulchMaid, yep, just one.

Hoover, "the land of trash palms"...that phrase almost makes me feel sorry for you! My brother was telling me about a serious rat infestation in some old palms around Phoenix. Yuck.

DD, one of my prickly pears is doing a definite vine impression right now. It doesn't look happy though, laying down on the job).

Lancashire Rose, careful, then you might have crazies like me stopping to take pictures!

Candy, just think how many palm trees you could decorate with the pads of your fallen Opuntia!

  11. There's a large prickly pear cactus growing way in the canopy of a live oak at Washington Oaks Gardens here in NE Florida, right at home with tillandsias and ferns. :)
