I am not in the desert southwest…
You’re going to look at these images and think I’m reporting from Arizona…but I’m not. These pictures were taken right here in the Portland area (Beaverton to be exact). Amazing, I would love to live across the street from this! My opportunity to photograph this garden came early in the morning, thus I was battling harsh shadows as the sun hadn’t yet risen above the trees to the east. Hopefully you’ll still be able to see what an amazing collection of plants has been combined here to create a most out-of-the-ordinary garden for this part of the country. The garden has been built up significantly from the surrounding area, all in the name of excellent drainage no doubt. As I was snapping the last couple of photos one of the neighbors, out to collect her newspaper, asked if I had seen it in bloom “quite the sight” she said. I’ll definitely be back, hopefully I’ll have had the chance to meet the owner by then and I can fill in a little of the back-story. Hope you enjoyed!
I think you *are* in the Desert SW - someone got it right down to the use of rocks and gravel sizes. That is an amazing planting. And "dangerous"!
ReplyDeleteI bet you fell in love at first sight! I always think of your whenever I see anything slightly dangerous in gardens or nurseries.
ReplyDeletethat is the best thing I have seen in ages! it is literally amazing! I would just pitch a tent in their yard and call it a vacation!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful, not just the amazing array of plants but also the overall design.

ReplyDeleteDarla, my mouth fell open for sure.
Louis, I don't think there is room in the yard for a tent!
College Gardener, agreed.
Adam D, I plan to return and capture it in bloom!
Meg S, I don't think that it is! I think cold hardy varieties were selected and the drainage is sharp.
