WWTT Number 5

Yes it’s time for another WWTT post. As I commented yesterday, when you live in the city a good fence can really make your garden. Of course everyone has a different idea of what a good fence means. This person believes it involves skis. Notice they are mounted in pairs. Convenient should you ever find yourself in a ski emergency, no?

  1. My first reaction, from back when I was a skier, not a gardener: "Man, that is one expensive fence!" But I suppose those skis are obsolete, to be picked up at garage sales for a song...but why? why? why?

  2. I totally don't think this merits a WWTT. I LOVE it. What they were thinking is, "Wow, we are awesome!" And I agree.

  3. ricki, that's what I figured...thrift shops and garage sales.

Greensparrow, and that is what I LOVE about blogging and the world in general. I am very glad to hear a vote in support, everyone has a different take on things. Maybe next time you need a fence you'll remember the ski-fence!

  4. I'm with Joseph on this one. It's not what I would ever choose, but why not? They are showing their individuality. Doesn't look like they have much of a garden on the inside though. Too bad. I'm curious to know what they would do with plants.

  5. I think it is pretty cool too! Especially if they are avid skier's. At garage sales around here you can pick up an old pair for $10.00.

  6. What they were thinking: Color! Pairs! Unique! Weatherproof!

What I was thinking: If they'd separated the pairs for more of a tapestry effect it could have been even more awesome!

  7. The ski fence rocks! My dream is to some day have a fence made of surfboards :) I think it might have been a little cooler if they mixed up the pairs a little.

I like it too. I bet the owner of the fence was/is the owner of a ski store and these are probably the old "trade-ins." I'm glad s/he removed the bindings. They would have looked too clunky but the sleek style and color of the skis has merit. Not my cup o' tea but definitely right for some people. Thanks for posting. Boy have I got some catching up to do. :)

  10. All...I would have never dreamt that this fence would have so many fans! I love that you all love it. And Megan, when you do build that surfboard fence someday I hope you'll post a picture, or two!

  11. Where do you find these things? LOL In the right setting I think it will look cool, but it does not at all work there.

  12. They're planning an insanely awesome alpine garden on the rocks below, right? The Rossignol's will fit right in with the Androsace's. We'll see. Until then, WWTT.

  13. I also love this fence. I have also seen old skis used as a raspberry trellis. I'm not sure it harmonizes well with the brick mid-century modern, so I concede you a WWTT on that score. I have also seen really wacky chairs made from old waterskis. I have to admit I kind of want one, but they are too expensive.

  14. I'm guessing they wanted to build a fence that would never, ever rot, and they'd never have to replace.
